Here are potatoes from the field above
being loaded for delivery to our Birmingham, Al. facility. Each truckload
of potatoes will have about 48,000 pounds of potatoes on it when loaded. |
The load of potatoes will usually
arrive within 36 hours of being loaded. It will take us about 45 minutes
to unload it once it arrives. It will last about 3 hours of production
time before it is gone. |
The potatoes travel by water flume
from the unloading and storage warehouse to the processing area where
they are peeled and inspected prior to being sliced and cooked. |
After washing, the
potatoes are sliced and cooked into The South's
Original Potato Chip !. It takes 100 pounds of potatoes to make
25 pounds of potato chips. At the end of the cooker, salt is applied to
all, except No Salt chips. |
Some of the FLAKES go through machines that
add spice. |
Then the potato
chips are weighed on computer controlled scales, |
and
packaged in metalized film
(to protect the
potato chips from the environment), bagged and boxed. |
Once boxed,
the potato chips are off to the routing department for delivery to the
store. |
The
boxes of potato chips are then diverted to a specific tractor trailer
to be loaded for shipment.
